Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has been selected to play Jake Adelstein, a Tokyo-based crime reporter, in the upcoming movie adaptation of his 2009 book Tokyo Vice. The book follows Adelstein as a Yomiuri Shimbun journalist digging into the shady yet surprisingly open world of the yakuza, eventually uncovering a deal between the “John Gotti of Japan” and the FBI which results in a price being put on his head.
Adelstein has been co-writing the screenplay to ensure authenticity and is said to be especially impressed with Radcliffe’s desire to learn Japanese for the role. We’re anticipating the day the young actor discovers the hellish verb conjugation rules and decides the American audience probably won’t notice if he wizard-vocabs his way through the lines. “Yoroshiku onegaishazam!!”
